The lads were invited for an exhibition at ‘Centrum’ called ‘Notion on Limitation’. The ‘limitation’ was one square meter.

After long discussion they decided to bring a fridge from their headquarters to the exhibition place. The fridge was full of meat and had been turned off several months before.
A quote from Oprah was written under the fridge:
“ Breathe. Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know have for sure”

At the opening the people were warned not to open the fridge.
During the opening the world cup semifinal Spain- Germany was watched which they projected just outside the place.

Invited by Showroom MAMA , Rotterdam to do something for the Rotterdam Museum Night, ‘dit is dit’ came up with a subtle action which you might have noticed only by accident.

Quite some fake ‘personal belongings’ and vague bags and letters and pictures where made or composed by ‘dit is dit’ and left anywhere.

We made a wallet (picture 1) look ‘real’ and left it at a museum furniture piece. The people that found it, where surprised by this sight and one of them dared to pick it from the chair. After a quick look, they showed it to a museum attendant who . Finally he put it back on the chair as it belonged there…

Also the sausage, fixed with fireworks (pic 5), was watched by some of us from a distance, hoping the finder would lit the old piece of meat. Instead the guy who found it put the sausage in his bag and biked away.

We made some silkprint copies of a Picasso transfer-litho owned by ‘dit is dit’ (pic 9). Together with a copy of the certificate which proves the authenticity, we left copies for instance in the Boymans museum and the Kunsthal.

]]> (Wat is dit, mama…? )

Naar aanleiding van een uitnodiging van Showroom MAMA om iets te doen voor de Rotterdamse Museumnacht, kwam ‘ dit dit ‘ op de proppen met een subtiele actie, die je slechts per toeval zou kunnen hebben opgemerkt.
We composeerden allerlei ‘persoonlijk’ ogende bezittingen en vage tassen en objecten samen, die we overal op de route en in de galeries en musea, deelnemend aan de Museumnacht achterlieten.

Zo lieten we een portefeuille (1) er uitzien alsof hij echt van iemand was, door er oa pasfotootjes in te stoppen.
De portefeuille werd op een antieke stoel in het Boymans museum achtergelaten. De mensen die de portefeuille zagen liggen, keken er eerst vervreemd naar en pakten ‘m vervolgens van de stoel. Na erin gekeken te hebben gaven ze ‘m aan een suppoost die de portefeuille vervolgens weer op de stoel terug legde…

Ook een met vuurwerk aangekleedde worst (5) werd door een paar van ons vanaf een afstand bekeken, hopend dat de vinder het oude stuk vlees zou aansteken. Maar de knaap die de worst vond, stopte ‘m in z’n rugtas en fietste weg.

Verder maakten we oa een aantal zeefdruk copieën van een transfer-litho van Picasso, in het bezit van ‘dit dit’ (9). Samen met een echtheidscertificaat, lieten wij bijvoorbeeld exemplaren in het museum Boymans en Kunsthal achter.

All you needed was a clear vision of the daily live, a (simple) digital camera + the cable to put your photo’s on a computer.

The players got a ‘tour de force’ assignment book with quite some assignments which they could never complete all in the little time they had. Also an ‘inspiration bag’ with divers objects was given to each team.

Some examples of the (photo) assignments:

- Make a selfportrait (‘zelfportret’) of your group with this picture (the first pic. you see on the left) as an example. – Climb in a streetlight (‘lantarenpaal’), the higher you get, the more points you earn. – Take a photo of one of you together with a foreigner. The more exotic the foreigner, the more points you can get. – Take a picture of a cat (‘poes’). – Light the fireworks in the inspirationbag (‘rotjeknor’). – Take a picture of one of you, together with the most ill looking person you can find (‘terminale patiënt’).

picobello (second prize, most artistical team)
crap (also second prize, most spontaneous team)
fotostudio jaja (honourable indication,also because of solo participation)
bladblaasters (first prize, most energetic team)
kunst fm (also nice)
de katina’s (disqualified because of participation of members of jury)

Although not so many competed, some of the participants declared that they had a experience not to forget, which gave also this action a satisfying result for us.

]]> Dit is dit heeft een ‘prestatietocht’ gemaakt tussen TENT en WORM in Rotterdam, om hun filmprogramma te verfraaien.
Alles wat je nodig had, was een duidelijke visie op het dagelijkse leven, een (simpele) digitale camera en een kabeltje om je foto’s op een computer te zetten.

De deelnemers kregen het ‘tour de force’ opdrachtenboekje (inmiddels een collecters item) met aardig wat opdrachten die ze nooit allemaal in de korte tijd die ze hadden konden doen. Ook kregen ze een ‘inspriratiezak’ met diverse objecten mee.

Een paar voorbeelden van de te (fotograferen) opdrachten:

-Maak een zelfportret van je team met deze foto (eerste foto links) als voorbeeld.
-Klim zo hoog mogelijk in een lantarenpaal.
-Neem een foto van jou samen met een buitenlander. Hoe exotischer de buitenlander, de meer punten je krijgt.
-Ontsteek het vuurwerk in de inspiratiezak (‘rotjeknor’).
-Neem een foto van een van jullie, samen met een ziek uitziend iemand. Hoe zieker de zieke, hoe meer punten je krijgt (‘terminale patiënt’).

bladblaasters (eerste prijs, energiekste team)

Al waren er niet veel deelnemers, een aantal zeiden toch een niet te vergeten ervaring te hebben opgedaan, wat ook deze actie voor ons tot een geslaagde maakte…

Because ‘dit is dit’ won ‘the Komeet’ in 2006, a cultural prize, the organization of PMSF saw us as talents so they invited us to participate…....

the 2 acts were also made possible by Tjeerd and Johan & Satisch (from ‘Shaolin Ryu’).

Tjeerd was a friendly lad which had no problem walking around the festival in his ‘adams suit’ for ‘dit is dit’s first act.

Ex-european champion freefight Satisch and his buddy Johan could surprise the audience differently. The big friendly guys hired by ‘dit is dit’ started a fight right after the applause of the last official act. This unannounced act lasted less then a minute, but the impact, (even with the people who knew) was good.

]]> Met 2 ‘suprise acts’ nam ‘dit is dit’ deel aan het People Making Stuff Festival

Omdat ‘dit is dit’ de Haagse cultuurprijs ‘de Komeet’ won in 2006, zag de organisatie van PMSF ons als talenten en nodigde ons daarom uit om deel te nemen…...

De 2 acts werden mede mogelijk gemaakt door Tjeerd en door Johan & Satisch (van ‘Shaolin Ryu’).

Tjeerd was een vriendelijke jongeman die er geen enkel probleem mee had voor ‘dit is dit’ in zijn adamskostuum het publiek op het festival te benaderen. Van deze actie is door Gonzalo een video gemaakt.

Ex-europeeskampioen freefight Satisch en z’n maat Johan konden het publiek op een andere manier verbazen. De door ons ingehuurde zeer forse (en vriendelijke) mannen, rolden al vechtend over de grond na het applaus van de laatste officiële act. Deze onaangekondigde act duurde minder dan een minuut, maar (zelf bij de mensen die ervan wisten) was de impact zeer geslaagd.
